Chicago girl, 14, guns down rival in Facebook dispute over boy: police

Endia Martin, also 14, was fatally struck in the back Monday in broad daylight after her social media dispute with a former friend spilled out into the street. The gun had been stolen from a car earlier this month and reportedly jammed as the alleged murderer tried to open fire on her rival.

Another virtual diss has turned into a real-life tragedy.
A Facebook feud between two 14-year-old girls over a boy ended when one gunned down the other on a Southside Chicago porch in broad daylight Monday afternoon, police said.
The unnamed teen perp, who has been charged with murder as a juvenile, whipped out a stolen .38-caliber handgun about 4:50 p.m. and tried to shoot into a crowd of people. The gun jammed and the girl handed it to someone else, who cleared the piece and gave it back.
As she sprayed the porch with gunfire, she struck Endia Martin in the back, killing her and grazing a 16-year-old girl in the arm."What would have been, under any other circumstance, probably a fistfight between 14-year-old girls, because they were fighting over a boy, turned into a murder," Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told reporters Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune. "You introduce a firearm and you have a murder."
The gun used in the tragic crime was stolen from a car April 13, and the girl’s 24-year-old uncle and a 17-year-old boy also face charges related to the incident, according to the Tribune.
"It appears that the two individuals we have in custody brought the gun to the scene — may have brought the gun to the scene — and were trying to discard the gun afterwards," McCarthy said at a press conference announcing the murder charges.Just a week prior, five kids between the ages of 11 and 16 were shot at a park in the city’s Park Manor neighborhood. More than 50 children ages 16 and younger have been shot so far in 2014, and nearly 100 people have been murdered in the city.
The girl’s stepfather, Kent Kennedy, was distraught over the city’s violent epidemic that claimed his stepdaughter.
“They had words and she gunned our daughter down. For what? What reason would another girl gun down another child?” he told the Tribune. "It's senseless. Kids are dying so young nowadays. It's senseless. Parents shouldn't have to bury no child."
Facebook, the social media giant, has been the source of several feuds, crimes and even murders internationally.
Last month, a Mexican 16-year-old girl knifed to death her teen friend after the victim posted naked selfies of them together on the online site.
