Singer Chris Brown sentenced to 1 year in jail

A Los Angeles judge sentenced R&B singer Chris Brown to a year in prison after the artist admitted he violated probation by attacking a man in Washington D.C. in 2013, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Brown, who turned 25 on May 5, had already been jailed since mid-March after being expelled from a rehab center where he was committed by a court order to undergo anger-management therapy.
Despite being sentenced to 365 days behind bars, Brown could walk out of prison next weekend a free man because he could be given credit for the three months he spent in rehab and the 234 days already served, plus certain penitenitiary benefits.
One factor in the singer's favor when the judge handed down his sentence was the fact that Brown was diagnosed a short time ago as suffering from bipolar personality disorder.
Once out of jail, Brown will remain on probation until Jan. 23, 2015.
Brown's scrapes with the law go back to 2009 when he assaulted pop star Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time, and was found guilty of domestic violence.
In October he was charged with hitting a man outside a hotel in Washington D.C., a case still in progress. EFE
